Spray Painting vs. Rollering

Are you looking to paint the walls of your room? Well, there are basically two ways of carrying out the job – by spray painting and by using rollers for painting. If you ask a painting contractor as which one is better way of painting, he will not be able to guide much on the same. They opine that there are minimal differences in the two ways of painting if efficiency, looks and finishing touches are considered. However, it is also true that roller painting cannot be done on all kinds of surfaces, while spray painting is suitable for all surfaces.

Comparison between Spray Painting and Roller Painting:

Finishing and Coating – If you compare the finishing of spray painting and roller painting, you will find that the former one has better finishing than the latter. Painting with rollers might not give a very smooth effect at the end. On the contrary, painting with a spray paint gives uniform and smooth effect as the paint particles make a fine mist, which helps in covering all the surfaces that it comes in contact with. This is the reasons spray painting can be done on all kinds of surfaces including stairs, furniture and window frames. However, roller painting is mainly targeted at the walls of a room.

However, while spray painting on any surface, you need to have an eye for detail. Sometimes the concentration of the spray might vary from one place to another. This might lead to uneven finishing. If the passes are too close or too far, it will definitely look bad. Paints will greater sheen will show more of uneven buildups. Ensure that the paint sprayer is cleaned thoroughly so that smooth onsite spraying can be done.

Accessibility and Speed – If you are short on time regarding the painting work in your home or commercial establishment, spray painting is the best thing for the same. Using a spray painter is the best thing when compared to painting with brushes or paint rollers. When a paint sprayer is used, minutest particles from the paint get emitted from the sprayer and offer instant and quick coverage on the surface which will be painted. Smallest nook and corner of the wall or the furniture gets painted with spray painting conveniently.

With paint rollers, it is not possible to access the corners of a room or nooks of furniture. Forcing the roller in these places might lead to development of scratches on the painted surface or make ugly splotches and marks of wet paint.

Varieties in paint sprayers – If you are planning to purchase a paint sprayer, you will get it in different sizes and varieties. While some spray cans are exclusively meant for home owners, some are meant for commercial purposes and professional painters and painting contractors. Air models as well as airless sprayers are available in the market. Purchase the one that meets your requirements in the best possible manner. The air sprayers cost more and provide more uniform painting when compared with airless sprayers.

Why Low Carbon Building Refurbishment is needed?

Carbon emissions and the resultant climate change are the most debilitating issues concerning the world today. The old, dilapidated structures across the cities are among the main reasons for excessive energy inefficiency experienced. Demolishing and making fresh structures also means a lot of waste and adds to carbon emissions. Hence, there is an urgent need felt for refurbishing worn down building structures and can comparatively be a better idea to fight high carbon emissions. Improved energy efficiency of buildings and positive climatic changes with low CO2 in the atmosphere is the key to sustainability.
Spreading Greener Refurbishment awareness can save environment
The operational performance and energy efficiency can be improved by as much as 30-40% by refurbishing using greener resources that consume and emit low amounts of energy. Prediction of energy savings is possible using various modelling strategies on the part of the designers. Planning, in the initial stages of refurbishment can help in practically lowering carbon emission for the building.
Building refurbishment is normally a costly affair if the design is not planned properly. There is a need to find cost effective ways for refurbishments and one can approach refurbishment commissioning engineers who can suggest straightforward measures towards building energy efficiency. This will include things like upgrading the lighting and tightening the insulation panels instead of demolishing and rebuilding structures. Metering and energy audit schemes also work well to check the performance, post the refurbishment work design implementation.
Many a times, when the goal of low carbon emissions is not clear on the part of the designer or contractor, the whole idea of greener refurbishment goes for a toss. The carbon intensive machineries, resources which are normally used for new construction are avoided in refurbishments which need to abide by minimum performance standards.   Awareness on the part of the occupants is the most important as they will decide the performance success. Minimal use of CO2 emitting equipments, maintainence of the equipments and such behaviour on the part of the occupants can make a lot of difference after the design implementation.
Joint efforts for favourable climate change
Buildings seem to be contributing more than 50% of the total greenhouse gas emission of carbon-dioxide. Better carbon emissions management controls in every building can progressively benefit the entire world. However, the Government and the private sector need to collaborate and participate in commercial low carbon emission refurbishment efforts. Together, we can make the drive of favourable climate change easy to achieve.
Asbestos and lead are frequently emitted when demolishing old buildings and can cause fatal health hazards. This isn’t just a cause for alarm for the residents in the neighbourhood but also the workers in the project. All of it can be avoided with an emphasis on greener facets, including installing more and more solar panels for energy generation in order to safeguard the non renewable energy resources.
The designs of greener buildings must be simple, where the prime design considerations include maximum natural ventilation and insulation panels which prevent overheating on the inside and the emission of higher carbon-di-oxide on the outsides. Such refurbishments, if carried out everywhere can make a serious difference in the level of CO2 emissions which are a threatening the entire world today.
Climate change has been severely affecting various regions in the world and every year, the number of people getting directly affected is increasing exponentially. It’s come to a now or never situation and we need to get together as a single global community what is both concerned and well educated.

INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS
A major client encountered a situation, whereby a main steelwork fabrication, which had been erected and was in-situ on a finished project, was showing signs of corrosion at three hundred spigot/box section interfaces. These areas could not be accessed; therefore no conventional cleaning/shot blasting and painting could be carried out. ARS UK Ltd’s technical services realised that for corrosion to form an Anode-Cathode-Electrolyte triangle must be present, forming a ‘triangle of corrosion’. To prevent the corrosion one of the legs of the triangle must be removed. An innovative and elegant solution was devised for introducing a sacrificial anodic coating to all of the affected areas, thus removing the electrolyte and offering an Active as well as Passive protection, which even if slightly damaged is still effective.

Innovative Building Products

Earlier the choices of building materials were limited to locally sourced materials like bricks, stones and timber, these materials have been used for centuries. Innovative building products are being constantly developed. Innovation in building products plays a very magnificent role among the most effective forces which guided the development of building forms and styles.

Broken and Scratched Glass Repair Tips

A broken window is a situation no homeowner or business person wants to have to deal with, but unfortunately, accidents do happen. For anyone dealing with a broken or shattered window, there’s not only the issue of handling the mess left behind that could be dangerous but there is also the matter of getting a replacement sorted.
Here are a few tips to help you with the clean-up process:

1)      Secure the area and make sure everyone is aware of the incident. Cordon off the area with chairs or other furniture to prevent further accidents.
2)      Without endangering yourself or others, assess the mess to evaluate how big your clean up area will be.
3)      Call a glass repair company, the faster the broken window is replaced, the less you have to worry about anything else coming through the window such as rain water or insects. They will also be able to help you asses if the window needs to be secured.
4)      When clearing up the glass, be sure to protect yourself. Wear close-toed shoes with thick soles and heavy gloves to prevent cuts from glass.
5)      Put any glass in old newspaper, wrapping the glass up in several layers and then place in a bin bag. Label the bin bag clearly to say it contains broken glass.

6)      Once the larger pieces of glass have been removed, carefully sweep or hoover away any smaller pieces, taking care to check for shards or particles that may be hidden behind other pieces of furniture or cushions.

Glass scratches are a common occurrence. From windows to table surfaces, scratches can take the sheen off the sophistication no matter the size of the scratch.
As a general rule, the heavier the scratch, the trickier it is to remove. If the scratch is deep enough to catch the tip of a fingernail, it is likely it is too deep to be repaired yourself.
Minor scratches can be repaired with a little effort:

·         Clean the surface area using a glass or window cleaner with a soft cloth then wipe dry with kitchen towel
·         Carefully and gently rub in a metal polish such as Brasso using small circular motions with a soft cloth.
·         If you don’t have a metal polish to hand, try using clear nail varnish. Use a thin layer on the scratch and remove any excess with nail polish remover lightly dabbed from a clean cloth.
·         Once polish is dry, polish to a shine. These steps may need to be repeated if you don’t get the desired results first go.

If the scratch is too deep, give us a call. Our Scratch removal System for glass repair is unlike any other scratch removal process globally.
